Fresh-picked lettuce leaves can keep for a surprisingly long time. Wash the leaves, trip off any wilted bits and the stem, and store the leaves in a plastic bag or container. We’re often rushed for meals so I wash a whole head at a time and keep the leaves in the fridge so we can handily pull out whatever we need for a meal.
NEVER store lettuce or other leafy greens with apples. Apples release a gas that will age your greens: lettuce turns to brown mush. Ew. Keep your apples in the garage or another refrigerated area, if possible.
